There's something about the vastness of Canada that seeps into the music.
In punk terms, it leads to the gnarled riffs of Fist City, or the epic projects of Fucked Up. Crushed by the scale of the landscape, it can also lead to the more introverted, melodic sounds of Chastity.
Hailing from the town of Whitby, Ontario, the group will release a new tape through Hand Drawn Dracula on November 13th. Lead cut 'Saliva' is online now and it wails – scorched guitars, flailing drums and vocals that flit between desperation and becoming supremely energised.
Chastity’s Brandon Williams says: "'Saliva' isn’t about skateboarding, it isn’t about fucking. It’s about conscience. Over the summer as it’s been played it’s become less and less about me, and become more about anyone who has been spat in the face by someone who may not even have the conscience to realise."
Check it out now.
