Insecure Men have shared a cover of Peter Andre's 90s pop classic 'Mysterious Girl'.
The recording appears on new album 'Karaoke For One: Vol 1', featuring Saul Adamczewski working alongside some beat up kit.
The sessions were taped at home, and were initially placed on SoundCloud before J Spaceman from Spiritualized seemingly urged Fat Possum to give them a full release.
Saul explains: “They’re just my favourite songs. I love singing them. If we were to to go out and do karaoke right now, these are all the songs that would be on my wishlist. I put them online on Soundcloud ages ago and didn’t really think about them that much.
“What really changed things was Jason Spaceman [aka Jason Pierce, of Spiritualized and Spacemen 3] got really into them and kept on saying to Fat Possum, our record label, that they should put it out. So I re-recorded all of the songs this summer [2018] with the help of two of the guys from Insecure Men, producing the session, Marley Mackey and Joe Isherwood.”
So: 'Mysterious Girl'. It's a grinding, heavily DIY re-working, almost like a Throbbing Gristle demo that happens to feature as its core text Peter Andre's 90s mega-hit.
Deviating enormously from the original, it still manages to conjure images of Peter's iconic and still slightly surreal six pack.
Tune in now.
'Karaoke For One: Vol 1' will be released on October 19th.
