Indira Ellis Shares New Single ‘if you’re up for it’

"This song is for every girl who learned the hard way that hindsight is 20/20.”

New York-based artist Indira Ellis has shared hew new single, ‘if you’re up for it’.

Following a series of releases this year, including last month’s ‘i don’t miss u‘, Ellis returns with the defiant post-breakup reverie, ‘if you’re up for it’. Framed as a conversation with a friend who learnt the hard way about an out-of-sync ex, Ellis pivots between tender notes of affirmation and caustic lyrics over a gumbo of alternative rock and fuzzy emo-pop.

Of the inspiration behind the single, Ellis says: “Technically, this song is about a friend and her evil ex-boyfriend. When I tried to introduce her to one of my favourite albums, I learned that he had beaten me to it and made the experience so unpleasant she refused to listen to any of their other works. As time went on, it became clear to me that he wasn’t right for her. When she finally broke up with him, I couldn’t say “I told you so” to her, so I wrote this song.”

Classically trained, Ellis merges her musical theatre background with a natural affinity for anthemic rock. Her move New York to study film and media studies aided in the evolution of her musical career. It’s the elevated histrionics and love of cinematic tropes that are explored in songs that capture the mayhem of one’s twenties.
