In-fighting With Snow Patrol? The Band Lose Two Members

Jonny Quinn and Paul 'Pablo' Wilson depart...

Snow Patrol have lost two long-standing members, amid reports of in-fighting.

The band have Northern Irish roots, while forming in the Scottish city of Dundee. Initially a kind of shambling indie outfit with Sebadoh inclinations, Snow Patrol’s transformation into a globally successful brand is a truly unique journey.

Long-time members Jonny Quinn (drums) and Paul ‘Pablo’ Wilson have decided to step away, and the news was made public on the group’s socials a few days ago. Singer Gary Lightbody wrote heartfelt posts to both – he’s known Jonny Quinn since school, while Pablo Wilson has been a member for more than a decade.

He writes: “We are heartbroken they have decided to leave us but we wish them nothing but happiness, success, joy, compassion and everything they want in all their future endeavours.”

The note also promises new material, with the band’s previous album ‘Wildness’ having landed back in 2018. He writes: “there will be a new album next year but more news of that will come at an appropriate time…”

All very civil. As the Belfast Telegraph notes, however, Jonny Quinn’s wife isn’t going down without a fight. Mariane Quinn responded to one comment by writing: “It’s been a fucker. Fucked by you know who.”

In a note on a locked social media account, she added that the circumstances for the departure were “not the best.” Continuing, she thanked Gary Lightbody and Nathan Connolly… but she didn’t thank Johnny McDaid, the guitarist who joined Snow Patrol in 2011.

Is McDaid the “you know who” who is responsible for being “fucked”? Time will tell.
