Iggy Pop and Tom Waits will hold the fort on 6Music next weekend.
Iggy Pop is of course a 6Music regular, his inimitable growl making for magnetic listening. Capable of spinning everything from doo wop to hardcore punk via West Coast rap and neo-soul, the eclectic nature of his shows taps into the core of 6Music’s values.
This weekend Iggy has coaxed close friend and bon vivant Tom Waits into the studio for a very special broadcast. Tom Waits essentially doesn’t do interviews – believe us, we’ve asked many a-time – so this is an incredibly rare chance to soak up some of his distinctive verbology.
Kicking off at 4pm on Sunday, December 3rd, the two are set to chat amiably, sharing stories about obscure hitchhike rides, and how Iggy Pop once came across Captain Beefheart eating breakfast in Los Angeles – but opted not to disturb him.
Honestly, this sounds unmissable in our eyes. Airing from 4pm, it’ll then be available globally on BBC Sounds.
Iggy Pop and Tom Waits of course previously sat down together for a segment of Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes – re-visit that clip below.
Tom Waits’ famed mid-career run – ‘Swordfishtrombones’, ‘Rain Dogs’ et al – was recently re-issued on glorious vinyl.
