Idris Elba joined Australian group Lime Cordiale onstage in London last night (September 15th).
The two forces joined up earlier this year, with their EP ‘Cordi Elba’ resulting in a whipsmart series of cutting edge pop tracks. Fusing hip-hop, electronics, and Idris’ love for UK culture, the EP has earned a cult following of its own.
Touching down in the UK for a string of shows, Australian group Lime Cordiale took to the stage at London’s Electric Ballroom last night – September 15th – promising a few surprises.
Yep, actor, DJ, producer, songwriter Idris Elba joined them onstage for the very first time, performing ‘Unnecessary Things‘ ‘Apple Crumble‘ and ‘What’s Not To Like‘ from the recent six track project.
The beaming UK icon told the crowd:
“I know what you’re thinking. ‘What the fuck is Idris Elba doing up there right now’. And as I was walking out I was thinking the very same thing.“
“About a year ago I was in Australia making a film out there with George Miller and while I was there someone invited me to meet Lime Cordiale. They asked me do you want to go to the studio and meet with Lime Cordiale, I was like ‘fuck yeah, of course I do!’”
“It’s great to see you guys, it’s the first time I’ve ever sung any of these songs live, I’m really nervous but so happy to be here with all of you.”
Fans went wild for the unexpected onstage team up –
