IDLES Have Covered Hey Duggee’s ‘Stick Song!’

Yes, really...

IDLES have shared a surprising take on children’s favourite ‘Stick Song!’ – from CBeebies show Hey Duggee.

If you’re a parent – or a friend of a parent – then you’ll definitely be acquainted with the world of Hey Duggee. A hugely popular CBeebies series, it’s become a phenomenon, a rite-of-passage for toddlers and young children.

Deep down, parents love it too – or at least, IDLES seem to.

When CLASH spoke to the Bristol-rooted band recently we found frontman Joe Talbot espousing the thrills of family life, and this certainly is true of their latest release.

He told us: “It’s a beautiful thing. But right now. I got some vocals to record in a recording session, and then I’m picking my kids up from school. And I’m gonna do that. I’ve got so much shit to look forward to right now. Life is good!”

Fresh from covering Little Simz cut ‘Mood Swings’, IDLES step in to tackle Hey Duggee favourite ‘Stick Song!’ for an episode that seems to mirror Glastonbury in timely fashion.

Soundtracking a Solstice-based festival – complete with music and cosmic vibes – IDLES rip through ‘Stick Song!’ as the Rabbits prepare for the Carrot Solstice. It’s a time when the sun is at its highest, and they gather round Carrot Henge to celebrate the glory of this humble vegetable (or so we’re told).

The episode has just been released – tune in on iPlayer now.

What’s that…? You need more IDLES x childhood content…?  Well, lead singer Joe Talbot recently read Under the Love Umbrella as a CBeebies Bedtime Story.

Catch IDLES at Glastonbury this weekend. The band will play a headline set at Glastonbury’s Other Stage this Friday – their set begins at 10:15pm and will be broadcast on BBC Four, alongside a pre-show interview on BBC Radio 6 Music with Huw Stephens.
