Legendary rapper Ice-T has been arrested by police in the United States for driving without his seat belt.
You can take the boy out of NWA, but you can’t take the NWA out of the boy. It’s more than fifteen years since Ice-T departed the iconoclastic rap group, but the hip hop icon is once again in trouble with the law.
Now a respected actor as well as a musician, Ice-T was travelling to the vet with his bulldog. Apparently the poorly pub was in need to knee surgery when the rapper, Real name Tracy Marrow, was pulled over by police when cruising through Manhattan on Tuesday morning (June 20th).
Taken to the station, he was charged and then released soon afterwards. Sending a message to his fans, Ice-T wrote on his Twitter account: “Some punk bitch rookie cop named Fisher #10026 made the arrest of his bullshit career today. Arresting the Notorious Ice-T for no seat belt.”
However sources close to the police beg to differ. The car was pulled over due to the driver not wearing a seat belt, but Entertainment Weekly reports that the rapper was guilty of many more offences.
An un-named person in NYPD told the American magazine that Ice-T was driving with a suspended license and expired insurance. Responding to this, the rapper claimed the report was “some bullshit they made up”.
Continuing, the rapper explained that the officer “said ‘I know who you are and I don’t give a fuck!’ That was right after I called him a punk bitch.”
Ice-T’s attitude to the forces of law and order have changed somewhat. A member of NWA, he was responsible for classic gangsta rap nuggets such as ‘Fuck Tha Police’ before going solo with 1992’s ‘Cop Killer’.
Now, though, the rapper is a respected actor who appears as an NYPD detective on ‘Law & order: Special Victims Unit’.
Ice-T has not issued an official statement about the case, although it is expected he will be fined.
