Indie icon Ian Brown has unveiled the artwork to his single ‘Stellify’ – and it contains numerous roses.
Ian Brown helped form The Stone Roses back in the mid 80s. Emerging from the remains of a band named The Patrol, the group were buoyed by Brown’s inimitable stage persona. However they had the talent to match the talk, and soon became a cult phenomenon in their native Manchester.
The band’s debut album is twenty years old this summer, and re-union rumours mounted. However Ian Brown was quick to discredit these, arguing that his decade long solo career would precedence over any group plans.
Guitarist John Squire had a rather more eloquent put down. Constructing an enormous artwork detailing his refusal to re-join the band, Squire later sold the sculpture and gave the proceeds to charity.
But it seems that Ian Brown is looking back on his past with new album ‘My Way’. Much more reflective than previous efforts, the album is set to be preceded by the single ‘Stellify’ – whose cover is adorned with roses.
The cover features a bunch of red roses, some of which are sitting on top of a tambourine. Parent album ‘My Way’ is due to be released on September 21st, and contains another tracks that could reference Brown’s former band.
Album track ‘Just Like You’ has the following lyrics: “Sing the song and bang the drum/Feel the need and just believe/The best is yet to come/I really should have told ya/I really wanna hold ya/You know you won’t miss your water till the well runs dry.
“But when the bombs begin to fall/I didn’t do it for the Roses/As I was striding 10 feet tall/Well that’s another story/For the glory.”
Ian Brown is currently streaming the rack ‘For The Glory’ on his official website now!
