Ian Brown To Work With Johnny Marr

Manchester icons team up

One time Stone Roses icon Ian Brown has revealed that he plans to work on new material with Johnny Marr.

Manchester is a musical city. Lagging behind Liverpool in the 60s the dawn of punk saw the industrial heartland establish itself as a hotbed of innovation.

With bands such as A Certain Radio, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Chameleons and many more Manchester was capable of churning out seminal albums on a stunningly regular basis. Now in a new move two of the city’s most influential figures are set to team up.

In a new interview with BBC News Ian Brown has revealed that he plans to work on new material with one time Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. “The idea is that Johnny writes the music and I write the words and the melodies,” Brown confirmed.

“We’ve got a mutual friend who’s writing a drama series. One of them’s about ticket touts, another one’s about grafters – kids who sell T-shirts and things like that – and another one’s about pickpockets.”

“We’re going to get together and do the soundtrack for these dramas. We’d have to bring a drummer or a bass player in.”

For bass players, Ian Brown suggested former bandmate Mani or even former Happy Mondays star Paul Ryder.

This would turn Johnny Marr into a severely busy man. In addition to a stint with Stateside group Modest Mouse the guitarist is now a full time member of The Cribs. However the guitarist should be used to this – Marr was once a member of Electronic alongside Bernard Sumner and Neil Tennant.

Ian Brown’s new single ‘Stellify’ is out now.
