Ian Brown Inspired By Michael Jackson

New album completed

Indie icon Ian Brown has revealed that he was inspired by Michael Jackson for his new album ‘My Way’.

Ian Brown remains an icon, more than 20 years after the release of The Stone Roses’ debut album. The singer’s image and onstage stance made him the definitive frontman for a generation, with Liam Gallagher jotting down notes after witnessing the band live.

However all good things come to an end. After a tortuous wait the band returned with the guitar heavy album ‘Second Coming’ which was widely viewed as being a disappointment. One by one the members of The Stone Roses departed, until Ian Brown was left to lead his embattled troops to Reading in 1996.

The band’s final gig, it also launched his solo career. Now on his sixth solo album, Ian Brown retains the respect of acts half his age. With rumours of a Stone Roses re-union now being put to rest, Ian Brown can focus on his solo career.

Spending the bulk of this year working on his new album, in a new interview Ian Brown reveals that he was inspired by Michael Jackson for his new material.

“‘Thriller’ was our blueprint,” Brown told NME. “Every time we wrote a song we didn’t think was strong enough, we scrapped it. We mastered it on the day that Michael Jackson died too, so I’m taking that as a good omen.”

Obviously the links between the two are strong. Ian Brown once took to covering ‘Billie Jean’ when playing live, while both Brown and Michael Jackson share a love of monkeys.

To record the album Ian Brown returned to his hometown of Manchester to work with producer Dave McCracken. Recorded in Battery Studios the album has been given the title ‘My Way’.

Preceded by the single ‘Stellify’ on September 21st, the album marks the return of a British musical legend.

Ian Brown is due to release his new album ‘My Way’ later this year.
