The much vaunted reunion by British music legends The Stone Roses has been denied by former frontman Ian Brown.
The Stone Roses formed in Manchester in the early 80s and went on to become cult heroes in the city before exploding nationwide.
Their seemingly carefree blend of funk, soul, rock and 60s pop matched the euphoria of Acid House, making the band one of the most influential British acts of their generation.
A four year hiatus was caused by legal disputes, and the band’s much vaunted comeback album ‘The Second Coming’ is widely regarded as an overblown, but now under-rated, work.
Reports in the tabloid press yesterday (March 17th) suggested that The Stone Roses were to reform for a summer tour. The band split in 2006 with Ian Brown becoming a solo star.
However it seems this solo career is his priority at the moment with his publicist telling the Daily Mail that the singer aims to focus on his next album.
“We know nothing about a reunion,” the publicist said. “Ian is working on his new studio album which is due out later this year.”
Since the band’s split in 1996 guitarist John Squire has become a painter while Mani joined Primal Scream. Of drummer Reni little is known but he is thought to be in a new band in Manchester.
