Former Clash cover star and all-round good egg of pop Lorde has been charged with overseeing all the music for the next movie instalment of The Hunger Games, Mockingjay – Part 1, reports The Guardian.
Working beside director Francis Lawrence, the New Zealander – still 17, lest we forget what she’s achieved so young – will both record the film’s lead song and act as supervisor to ensure that the right tracks are selected to complement the film’s sure-to-be-angsty tone.
Lawrence has said in a statement that he was “immediately struck with how (Lorde) so innately understood what we were… trying to accomplish with the film”. Given the books’ young adult audience, we’re not that surprised to hear that a teenager ‘gets’ the intentions – but it’s great that someone from the movie’s target market is on board to work up what is a very pertinent aspect of the film’s production.
Continues Lawrence: “Her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack.”
Lorde’s own favourites of 2013 included cuts by James Blake, Deptford Goth, Majical Cloudz and Kanye West – so can we rule out the soundtrack featuring acts like Christina Aguilera, Ellie Goulding and The Lumineers? All of those wet flannels featured on the last Hunger Games soundtrack, for Catching Fire.
We look forward to hearing The Haxan Cloak over the end credits, thanks Ella.
