London artist Humble the Great has returned with a new single, ‘find your own’, out via buzzy imprint Neighbourhood Recordings.
Conceptualised by Humble alongside close friends and frequent collaborators Wormy and Hargs, ‘find your own’ is a sonic detour to a rootsy, Americana-inspired sound, drawing on the vivid, interior storytelling of 70s artists like Laurel Canyon, Jackson Browne and Joni Mitchell.
‘find your own’ honours the changing tides of friendship and the need to stimulate those closest to you. Humble says: “I wrote this song about wanting my best friends to grow with me. I feel like everyone reaches a point of change, where they need to start taking their lives seriously… I was feeling like that came to me earlier than those around me, so I wrote this song to say, ‘I don’t think I am above you, I just can’t achieve my dreams with you holding me back.”
After signing with Neighbourhood Recordings last year – the label behind talents like Dave and Kamal – Humble released his debut EP, ‘every night was the same‘, establishing a lilting, folk-inflected RnB imprint, coloured by his experiences in and out of relationships.
Humble recently played a sold-out show at The Lower Third in London and headlined the inaugural Pigeons & Planes stage at The Great Escape festival. He’s set to take the stage at Pitchfork Paris this November.
