Hotel Lux have shared new single ‘Vice’.
The band’s powerful album ‘Hands Across The Creek’ landed earlier this year, with Clash writer James Mellen praising it: “an exceptional debut record… Well-thought out and has the band breaking out of their comfort zone – exactly what a return should be.”
One track didn’t make the cut, however, with Hotel Lux judging ‘Vice’ as not quite fitting the over-arching album theme. As such, it was held behind, which is a real shame – a highlight of their intense live sets, it’s been a fan favourite since their earliest shows.
Spruced up and placed online in time for their latest European tour, ‘Vice’ remains a deliciously dark treat. Post-punk leaning indie rock, it spasms into nervous energy – the band comment…
“‘Vice’ had been a staple on the Lux set list since very early doors. Sadly, it never had its time to shine in a studio and it we didn’t feel it quite sat with what we were trying to do with previous releases. At the latter stages of the Hands Across the Creek sessions, we started bringing this rehashed version of the track back into the mix.“
“We added a new intro, Lewis changed his vocal attack slightly and we played with the pacing of the track a little bit. Alas, it didn’t quite fit with our ambition of the album but we felt it a shame to allow the track to disappear into the abyss.”
Tune in now.
