Introducing... About Group

Members of Hot Chip and Spiritualized have gathered together to form About Group.

Hot Chip are no strangers to side projects. Singer Alexis Taylor is an accomplished remix artist, while Joe Goddard has followed 2009's solo album with the ongoing project The 2 Bears on Greco-Roman.

Now, though, Alexis Taylor has opted to move into experimental realms. Forming About Group, the singer has completed work on a largely improvised new album with members of This Heat, Spiritualized and more.

About Group made their debut some time ago, going on take a strong impression at Meltdown and more. The loose knit collective released one album, but are now set to return with a much more concentrated effort.

Alongside Hot Chip singer Alexis Taylor the band have grabbed hold of Spiritualized's John Coxon, This Heat's Charles Hayward and jazz pianist Pat Thomas.

Working in legendary London studio Abbey Road, the songs were apparently crafted by Alexis Taylor. However in a neat twist the singer refused to teach the rest of About Group, preferring an improvised approach instead.

Sitting somewhere between Hot Chip and free jazz - two elements which are a considerable distance apart - the results are due to drop later this year. "The idea was that no one band member would know the songs well enough to have specific parts," a press release explains, "or be prevented from playing something like the first ideas that came into their head."

Recording their parts in just one day, About Group then spent three days mixing the material into something resembling an album. The band claim that the results are a "collection of songs created in an atmosphere of close listening and instinctive group interplay".

About Group are set to release single 'You're No Good' on March 14th, while full length effort 'Start and Complete' is due to be released on April 26th.
