Electro geek chic icons Hot Chip have recorded a cover of Joy Division’s classic single “Transmission” – at the request of former members of the band.
The London group recorded a very special version of “Transmission” after members of the band approached them to do it. Speaking to Radio 1 frontman Alexis Taylor said “It is totally different from Joy Division’s original version. It is much more Caribbean-sounding because it features steel pans as the lead instrument.”
He also suggested that the band are working on a version of Vampire Weekend’s “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” with Peter Gabriel, but given his penchant for surreal humour this may well be a joke.
Hot Chip are currently in the studio working on songs for their next album, the follow up to this year’s “Made In The Dark”. Taylor revealed that “the songs are more mid-tempo and disco influenced at the moment, ‘Made In The Dark’ was all over the place mood-wise and quite aggressive at times. But things are a bit calmer this time.”
There is no release date for the Hot Chip cover of “Transmission”.
