Rumors are mounting that London electro-pop group Hot Chip are set to work with former Genesis singer Peter Gabriel on their next album.
The two parties met when Hot Chip asked Gabriel to appear on a cover of Vampire Weekend’s ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa’ – a song that mentions Peter Gabriel in its lyrics. This piece of lateral thinking appears to have impressed Gabriel, with the singer reportedly enjoying his time with the eccentric synth manipulators.
In an interview with US magazine Billboard, Hot Chip member Joe Goddard revealed that more work with the prog singer may be on the cards, “we said we’d love to do more stuff with him in the future and asked him to contribute to the next record. So, we’ll see.”
Goddard also revealed in the same interview that Hot Chip singer Alexis Taylor has finished recording a solo album. To be called ‘Rubbed Out’ , the record is set to be released on London independent label Treader. However, the material is quite different from Hot Chip’s, with Goddard claiming that “they’re sketches of new songs, short improvised pieces. A scrapbook, in a way.”
Hot Chip are currently writing material for a new album which they plan to release early next year.
