Horrors Plot Self-Produced Album

'Primary Colours' follow up due

Critically lauded group The Horrors have revealed that they are planning to record their third album themselves.

2009 has been the year of the great turnaround. A series of acts whose debut albums received lukewarm reviews returned with stunning efforts, showcasing a new found ambition in British rock music.

The Horrors were foremost among these. The garage-goth types failed to hit the ground running with their debut album, with the band being derided as being image over talent.

Stung, The Horrors focussed on new material which found the group hitting their stride. ‘Primary Colours’ has been lauded as one of the year’s finest releases, benefiting from Portishead man Geoff Barrow’s superb production.

Now the band have confirmed that they intend to produce their third album themselves. “We’re actually looking at spaces at the moment because we’re hoping to build our own studio this time around” bass player Rhys Webb told BBC 6Music.

“I think for us that’s a really important thing, to not have any other distractions” he revealed.

“I think that was something that was important about ‘Primary Colours’. It was just the idea of, ‘Let’s just go and work’. For us, it really needs us to not be touring, or doing interviews, or being pulled around, and doing our own thing.”

Rhys Webb also revealed more about the band’s recording sessions with Damon Albarn. The Horrors are rumoured to be set to work on the new album by cartoon collective Gorillaz. “I know he’s working with a lot of people and there’s a lot of stuff going on, but I think the plan is it will be on the record coming out next year,” said Rhys Webb.

“I don’t feel I should really talk about that because it’s his record, but fingers crossed it will be on that early 2010 I think.”
