Hooton Tennis Club Return With ‘Born, Died’

The much-loved group have signed to Alcopop! Records...

Wirral group Hooton Tennis Club have shared new single ‘Born, Died’.

The group released two stellar albums before going on hiatus, opting to focus on other projects. Some low-key gigs this Autumn marked their return, with Hooton Tennis Club charming onlookers at Manchester showcase Beyond The Music.

Snapped up by Alcopop! Records – fans since breakout single ‘Jasper’, it seems – the band have just confirmed a flurry of fresh plans.

Looking ahead, Hooton Tennis Club are working on new material, and will curate their own New Year’s Hootonanny event at Birkenhead’s ace Future Yard venue on December 31st.

New single ‘Born, Died’ is out now, returning Hooton Tennis Club to their art-rock roots. Acerbic songwriting that skirts around the edges of early Pavement or even Wire, while maintaining their own sense of identity.

Recorded by Al Habeck and Hooton Tennis Club at MUMA Studios, the track was mixed by Harry Chalmers, and mastered by Tom Langrish at E1 Mastering; the title comes from a painting by artist Richie Culver in the 2023 John Moores Painting Prize.

The band comment…

With this subject matter, and the recording clocking in at two minutes thirty-something seconds, the song now plays out like ‘Roy’, the life simulator game in Rick and Morty. I really like the way we’ve captured it on record and in the mix, though—it reminds me of The Clean (minus the popping snare): fun, but kind of sad.

Tune in now.
