Josh Homme has talked about working with Arctic Monkeys and what fans can expect from their forthcoming album ‘Humbug’.
It was the collaboration no one expected. Deeply English, Arctic Monkeys upped sticks and moved to Mojave Desert in order to record with flame-haired rock icon Josh Homme. Best known as the frontman of Queens Of The Stone Age the singer threw himself into the project, even recording some parts with the band himself.
Arctic Monkeys later handed the tapes of their forthcoming album ‘Humbug’ to producer James Ford for the final mix down, but Homme’s approach is rumoured to have shifted the way the band sound.
In a new interview Josh Homme outlines his reasons for working with the band, claiming that it was singer Alex Turner’s lyrics that really hooked him.
“I was sucked in at first by the lyrics. Alex sounded like a rare poet playing music – he has a special gift for the gab,” explained Homme to the US edition of GQ.
The producer went on to single out Matt Helders as “one of the best drummers in rock ‘n’ roll”. The drummer seemed to love life in the United States, publishing a video blog in which he reveals he has been partying with Puff Daddy.
The rapper seems to be a fan of the band, and of Helders in particular of whom he claimed they were having a “bromance”.

Later in the interview, Josh Homme confirmed that Arctic Monkeys have chosen to experiment on the new album. “This is the record where they get weird, grow up and trip out,” he declared.
Arctic Monkeys are set to release their new album ‘Humbug’ on August 24th.
