Rising songwriter Holly Blair toys with tension and release on new single ‘Slow’.
The LA based artist will release her second EP on May 10th, with ‘Then Comes The Lightning’ expanding on her initial promise. Adding fresh elements, she digs deep, exploring personal truths in the process.
New single ‘Slow’ is a slender, almost minimalist arrangement, allowing space for the lyric to seep through. A song about backing away from people pleasing, ‘Slow’ is about allowing yourself to cede control and place trust in those around you.

The chorus is a theme that feels really central to my life, which is the desire to say yes, but being fearful of releasing control. So it’s really like my higher self talking, telling me not to be afraid, and to move with the nonlinear movement of life and time— to stop fighting so hard.
I wanted to create a track that captured the feeling of opposite truths existing at the same time. Everything in its own way is dialectic, especially when it comes to healing. So I wanted to create a feeling that embraced how hard shit gets sometimes, but at the same time how unpredictably beautiful that process can be. This song represents the moment where the fog lifted and I saw what I needed to grow, but wasn’t fully sure how to get there.
I just want people to feel seen in that feeling, and know it’s okay to not have all the answers, even if you feel like there’s a larger truth you do know but don’t have the words for, like maybe you feel it in your body or gut. At the end of the song when I sing “Spit the rocks out my mouth, So i can make a sound” that really sums up the energy I knew I needed to bring into my life. I was tired of being quiet and getting small when things got hard, I wanted to open and take up space. It was a really emotional line to sing for me, and maybe that sentiment will resonate with someone listening.
