Hold Steady Solo LP

Nicolay Prepares Album

Best known as the ivory tinkler in celebrated American rock group The Hold Steady, Franz Nicolay is preparing to release his debut solo album ‘Major General’ in the New Year.

It’s been a hugely successful year for The Hold Steady with new album ‘Stay Positive’ resulting in a flurry of, well, positive reviews. Making the band a household name (in our house, at least) it lead to successful tours in Britain and the US as well as favorable chart placing.

Longtime member Franz Nicolay normally remains in the shadows, adding keyboard parts and expanding the group’s sound. However, the musician is set to step into the limelight with new album ‘Major General’.

Produced by Hold Steady cohort James Frazee, the album was made in one week long burst of creativity. The singer will tour in the new year, playing a scheduled set in SXSW.
