Hercules & Love Affair are set to steer the latest instalment of the DJ-Kicks series.
Hercules & Love Affair have always been fuelled by club culture. Essentially a project for Andy Butler, the New York based producer is a renowned DJ in his own right with a real penchant for the varied colours of House.
Invited to prepare a mix for ik7’s ‘DJ-Kicks’ series, Hercules & Love Affair duly obliged. Out later this year, the compilation contains some typically jackin’ house alongside a few unexpected moments.
The band donate an unreleased cut, with ‘Release Me’ making the final mix. Alongside this, the ‘DJ-Kicks’ mix also features vocals from Andy Butler’s yoga guru, Paramahansa Yogananda.
A quick quote from the producer: “I’ve been learning meditation techniques and yoga. I wanted to include a spiritual aspect because nightclubs, as silly as they are in some ways, there is a religious experience to it for a lot of people, and that’s the way it was for me when I was young. When I was listening to people like François Kevorkian he would literally take me to another place”.
“I’ve had nights when I’ve danced for hours until I was a mess of sweat at Body & Soul and people would come up to me and ask, What are you on? And I was like, I’m not on anything, I’m just having a spiritual moment. So I wanted a bit of that in the mix.”
