Heddlu’s ‘Daw Eto Haul’ Represents A New Beginning

Tune in now...

Rhodri Daniel devoted his life to music.

A key member of Welsh band Estrons, he drove the group to have a major impact on the industry, gaining plaudits from NME, VICE, and Clash (naturally!) alongside Radio 1 support.

Yet all those years of toil on the live music circuit left lingering damage on his ears, causing severe damage to his hearing.

Experiencing painful discomfort, Rhodri was diagnosed with hearing loss, tinnitus and severe sensitivity to noise, forcing him to take a back step.

Unable to be around people due to the noise, he opted to begin a 900 mile hike, spanning virtually the entirety of the Welsh coast.A journey into the self, Rhodri emerged reinvigorated, feeling ready to focus on music once more.

Picking the name Heddlu – meaning ‘police’ in Welsh, derived from the words ‘peace-force’ – he linked with a recording engineer he met by chance during his lengthy hike.

New single 'Daw Eto Haul' represents a fresh beginning, a blank slate; off-piste pop music that comes from the heart, it develops into a kind of mantra.

Sung in Welsh, 'Daw Eto Haul' is a beautifully intoxicating track – Heddlu comments…

'Daw Eto Haul', which means the sun will come again, derives from a common Welsh idiom which is said to console those that better days are to come.

The phrase was repeated to me by my sister while I was going through the early stages of a condition which severely affected my hearing after years of touring the rock circuit with my old band. The mantra kind of stuck and I ended up repeating it to myself through bad times, but I think it's a message we can all relate to after these tough past few years.

Tune in now, and then check out a short film below the track.
