hard life – fka easy life – Share New Song ‘tears’

"Gimme airmiles or a fair trial..."

hard life reintroduce themselves with new song ‘tears’.

The band were formerly known as easy life, achieving a dogged cult following with their colourful indie-pop songwriting and exuberant live shows. That is, until a well-publicised fall-out with easyGroup led to a surreal legal hearing, and an order to change their name.

So, please welcome hard life. New single ‘tears’ is the product of some hard times, with Murray Matravers’ vocal discussing the disorienting impact of living your life in the public eye – for some unexpected reasons.

He jokes about “no use crying over oat milk” but the fear of growing apart from close companions is real – the legal action took its toll, and this is evident throughout ‘tears’.

The production utilises a pitched-up soulful vocal, akin to those Wu-Tang production techniques but given a pop twist. He sings: “it’s a hard life, I can’t lie, it’s been a rush, in the hard times, lucky I got friends that I trust, it was easy in my 20s now I gotta lawyer up, gimme airmiles or a fair trial…”

Murray comments…

Since our pretty public run-in with the well-known airline, my life has been turned upside down a little bit. Everything has been on hold. All of us have had to reassess what the band means to us and come to terms with the idea that everything has a beginning, a middle and indeed, an end.

The naive optimism we had in easy life has been swapped for something more raw and, I suppose, authentic. Sitting with my thoughts and going backwards and forwards with IP lawyers, I wrote ‘tears’. It highlights the absurdity of the situation as well as thanking the people who have had my back throughout this whole ordeal. Of course, this song makes me smile, and I suppose that is my way of processing. Anyway, we’re back. Thanks for your patience.

Tune in now.
