Peace and love...

Former Beatle Ringo Starr has asked fans to join him in celebrations for his 71st birthday.

Ringo Starr remains a law unto himself. Back in 2008, the drummer issued a video statement demanding that fans stop sending him memorabilia to sign - memorably signing off by saying 'Peace and Love'.

Since then, though, Ringo Starr has rather made up with his fans. The former Beatle has announced plans for a summer tour, which is currently winding its way across Europe.

Playing a number of British shows, the All Starr Band even stopped at Ringo Starr's hometown of Liverpool. Currently in Hamburg - again, closely linked to The Beatles - the drummer is currently celebrating his birthday.

Turning 71 years old the drummer is still on the road. Pausing for thought, Ringo Starr is set to led a salute in the Hard Rock Cafe in Hamburg at noon today (July 7th).

The drummer is set to say simply: 'peace and love'.

Inviting fans across the world to get involved, Ringo Starr wants fans to toast his birthday by asking for peace and love. Last year the genial drummer turned 70 and the moment was celebrated by hundreds of fans in Times Square.

Breaking through the barriers, Ringo Starr was able to celebrate with fans. Set for something rather more sedate this time round, the former Beatle is asking fans to re-Tweet the phrase 'Peace and Love'.

Alongside this, the Hard Rock Cafe are offering the limited-edition Ringo Starr Signature Series: Edition 28, designed by the legendary rocker himself, featuring his own original artwork.

Fifteen percent of the purchase price from the Ringo Starr Signature Series will be donated to Starr’s charity The Lotus Foundation to directly benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Happy Birthday Ringo!
