Californian trio Haim have been named the winners of the BBC Sound of 2013 poll.

The music scene is in a state of flux. Thanks to the growth of the internet, more music is being made and consumed than ever before producing a proliferation of micro-genres and niche scenes.

Which is what makes the BBC Sound of… poll so revered. Cataloguing the tastes of critics, broadcasters and industry figures across the land the poll unveiled its shortlist for 2013 recently producing an endless flurry of debate and speculation.

Now the winner has been announced. Haim have claimed the crowd, with the Californian sisters fighting off competition from the likes of Angel Haze, AlunaGeorge, Laura Mvula and more.
