Notorious Leeds grindie merchants Hadouken! could be set to remix alt rock group Fightstar – led by former Busted singer Charlie Simpson.
Busted ruled the charts with their inoffensive brand of pop-punk. A bit like Blink 182 without the gratuitous nudity and fart jokes, Busted came to a shuddering halt when singer Charlie Simpson told the band he was leaving.
It seems that Simpson’s heart was never in it, with subsequent interviews revealing he was only in the band to gain the money to do something worthwhile on a musical level. Faultless logic, really, but couldn’t he have raised the money by doing double shifts in Tesco like everyone else?
The Fightstar frontman bumped into Hadouken! at an awards ceremony last year. Hadouken! sprang to attention via a series of love them or loathe them singles. The group’s mixture of indie and grime made them notorious, while debut album ‘Music For An Accelerated Culture’ divided critics on its merits.
Not that the group themselves are bothered, however. Fightstar singer Charlie Simpson revealed the plans in an interview with NME.
“We met them at the BT Digital Awards, and they asked us if they could remix one of our songs,” Simpson said.
“We thought ‘Mercury Summer’ would be a great song for them to do, and they are really cool guys. It’s a great opportunity to be able to work with like-minded musicians.”
Fightstar are set to release their new single ‘Mercury Summer’ on Monday (April 6th). It is not known when the Hadouken! remix will become available.
