American newcomers The Drums have been left shocked by the departure of guitarist Adam Kessler.
The Drums have come a long way in a short time. Just a year ago the New York based group released their ‘Summertime’ EP, winning acclaim for their bright and breezy take on the post-punk legacy.
Mixing Factory style rhythms with surf-pop melodies, the band’s buoyant music masked a melancholic streak. The Drums released their debut album earlier this year, and stormed the festival circuit with a series of stunning performances.
However it seems that the band’s schedule has served to push them apart, with guitarist Adam Kessler leaving The Drums.
Issuing a short statement on their website, the band confirmed the departure. “There have been some questions as to recent events and we are sorry to say that Adam has left The Drums.”
“Jonny, Jacob and Connor are devastated and are keeping to themselves and with friends at this time. The band are currently on the road in America. Thank you for all of the support, it means a lot.”
The band are set to continue their American tour, although it is not known who will fill in for Adam Kessler. Supporting their debut album, The Drums had not given any sign of internal disagreement before, with the news very much coming as a bolt from the blue.
Recently appearing at Reading and Leeds, a statement from The Drums as the tour opened found them in high spirits. “Today was the first day of The Drums American tour, and it went great” they said.
The Drums are preparing to launch a new British tour later this year, opening in London on November 24th.
There has been no further statement from The Drums on the split.
