Grinderman Complete Second Album

Nick Cave & Co. schedule return

Blues-rocking side-project Grinderman have finished their second album which is due for release next year.

Nick Cave is a true Renaissance man. The Australian songwriter already has his own ongoing project with The Bad Seeds, but Nick Cave has also launched a number of other musical projects with a number of collaborators.

One time leading Bad Seeds Warren Ellis is a continual muse for Nick Cave, with the two preparing a collection of their soundtrack work for release containing. Containing well known works such as ‘The Proposition’ alongside rare tracks this will be an essential release for fans.

However away from the palatial world of soundtracks the pair have also crafted the blues-rocking outfit known as Grinderman. An attempt to re-connect with the visceral spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, the group’s debut album was epitomised by early single ‘No Pussy Blues’.

Released last year, Grinderman followed their debut album with a series of tour dates. Since then, however, all has been quiet with Nick Cave completing his much talked about new novel ‘The Death Of Bunny Munro’.

In a new interview Warren Ellis has revealed that Grinderman are on their way back, after completing work on their second album.

“We finished the Grinderman album three weeks ago,” he told The Quietus. “I mixed it over the summer. We’ve still got to do the track ordering, and a few tweaks on the mastering, but the album’s there.”

“It’s very different from (Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds’ latest album) ‘Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!’ and it’s very different from the first Grinderman album. There’s an attitude in there that’s similar, but sonically it’s got some pretty weird things going on.”

“It’s kind of like stoner rock meets Sly Stone via Amon Duul. Nick’s got a different thing going on with the lyrics than he would have from the Bad Seeds. Less sex? I wouldn’t say that.”

Grinderman’s second album is due for release next year.
