Greentea Peng is carving out a cosmic niche for herself.
Today the South East London singer and songwriter has shared new track ‘Mr. Sun (miss da sun)’, a hazy, languid ode to warmer times and warmer energy.
Smoky beats and twinkling electronic production come courtesy of long-time collaborator Earbuds (who’ s also worked closely with slowthai), incorporating jazzy sax lines and blissful moments of birdsong.
Peng’s also announced her new EP ‘RISING’, following up from 2018’s critically acclaimed project ‘SENSI’.
This new track continues to document the singer’s strong sense of spirituality, chronicling the bustle of inner city life and the centring influence of the song’s title subject – the sun.
Gauzy, low-lit R&B weaves elements of break beat, neo-soul and reggae, anchored by a dreamy vocal that nods to the likes of Sade, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.
To celebrate the release of ‘RISING’, Peng has announced a headline show at Brixton’s Hootananny in November, as well as playing BBC Introducing’s Roundhouse Rising and Boiler Room Festival next month.
Check out her new track now, and get back to those sunnier times...
