Green Day Talk New Album

Don't trust politicians, they say

Hugely successful political punks Green Day have given a revealing new interview in which they reveal an intense distrust of the political process.

Green Day formed in California in the late 80s, breaking through into the mainstream with the phenomenally successful album ‘Dookie’. Effectively mixing The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers with some pop nous, Green Day became one of America’s best known acts.

Their fortunes dipped in the late 90s before dramatically striking back with 2004’s ‘American Idiot’ album. A concept album, it raged against the state of America at the time earning the band global acclaim and several smash hit singles.

Since then however little has been heard of the band. In a new interview singer Billie Joe Armstrong reveals that new album ’21st Century Breakdown’ is fuelled by a distrust of politicians.

“A lot of people were born into an unlucky time, the era of George W Bush,” he told Rolling Stone. “There is an optimism now with Obama… be aware. Don’t look at this guy as the answer to our prayers. You still need to be involved.”

Produced by Butch Vig, the new release is a concept album split into four parts. Sprawling and ambitious, the album is keenly awaited by millions across the globe.

Green Day are set to release their new album ’21st Century Breakdown’ in May.
