Globe trotting punks Green Day are set to release their comeback single ‘Know Your Enemy’ as a digital download.
Green Day emerged from California with a clutch of songs that blended the fury and energy of The Clash with a great pop touch. The band had a twinkle in their eye, and with a series of inventive videos their major label debut ‘Dookie’ became a massive global success.
In the following decade however the band would spend their time attempting to reclaim this commercial peak, but gradually losing the freshness and vitality that made them so appealing. However in a massive turnaround Green Day put into practice their political ideals, releasing the globally success album ‘American Idiot’ in 2004.
A phenomenal success, the album catapulted the band into the upper echelons of rock making them a genuine cultural talking point. The Bush-baiting single was pasted to the radio, and the band enjoyed huge critical acclaim.
Comeback album ’21st Century Breakdown’ is a hugely ambitious concept album, split into three parts and containing eighteen tracks in total. The first single from the album will be ‘Know Your Enemy’ which is available as a digital download now.
At a recent hometown show in Oakland, California the band played their new album in its entirety. Performing before a packed arena Green Day played all eighteen tracks from ’21st Century Breakdown’ which is also a concept album.
The legendary punks then followed this with a 70 minute greatest hits set. Fans at the show were given a free poster containing the lyrics to each song from ’21st Century Breakdown’.
Pre-orders for Green Day’s forthcoming album ’21st Century Breakdown’ are being accepted now. The first time fans will be able to hear the album in full is on May 15th.
