American superstar punks Green Day are due to re-release their live album ‘Bullet In A Bible’ on Blur Ray later this year.
Green Day sure have come a long way. The band formed in California, inspired by years of travelling to the West Coast’s close knit punk clubs. Mixing the sound and fury of The Clash with some cheeky humour and a pop touch, the band quickly gained a rabid cult following.
The punk icons are set to re-visit their past soon with vinyl re-issues of their early albums. Green Day initially operated on a strictly DIY basis, selling albums out of the back of their tour van.
After being snapped up by a major label Green Day released the massively successful ‘Dookie’ album. Spawning some of the band’s most iconic hits, it would take Green Day the best part of a decade to re-capture this commercial peak.
Released in 2004, with Bush still in the White House and American troops flooding into Iraq, ‘American Idiot’ seemed to strike a chord across the globe. Harking back to the band’s early love of The Clash the album seemed capable of effortlessly blending the political and the personal.
A massive success, the band promoted the album with massive shows in the Milton Keynes Bowl. Playing to over 130,000 fans this was the biggest moment of Green Day’s career to date, with the group on ferocious form as they tore through their hit laden back catalogue.
Released as the live album ‘Bullet In A Bible’ the band are due to re-visit this stunning concert with a new Blu Ray release. Due to hit the shops later this year, Green Day have made sure that both sound and visuals are cleaner than ever.
Opening with ‘American Idiot’ the concert contains a number of surprises. Covering the likes of ‘Shout’ and ‘We Are The Champions’ the band also reach back to their punk origins with a version of ‘Knowledge’ by cult heroes Operation Ivy.
Possibly the band’s defining moment, since then Green Day have released the follow up album ’21st Century Breakdown’.
