American punk veterans Green Day have revealed that their new album will be called ’21st Century Breakdown’.
Formed in the late 80s Green Day struck paydirt with their Clash/SLF sound. Breakthrough album ‘Dookie’ was a massive global success, spawning some of the band’s biggest hits.
Lacking direction somewhat as the new century dawned, Green Day hit back with the politicised ‘American Idiot’ album. Released in 2004, the rock opera of sorts was fuelled by indignation at the Neo-Conservative views then prevalent in American politics.
With Obama now in the White House, it remains to be seen how Green Day will adjust to the nation’s new liberal mood. Due to be released in May, the album will be titled ’21st Century Breakdown’ and will apparently be split into three separate acts: ‘Heroes And Cons’, ‘Charlatans And Saints’ and ‘Horseshoes And Handgrenades’.
A statement on the group’s official website revealed the title, with pre-orders apparently now being taken.
Green Day were last seen presenting an award at the Grammy Awards last night (February 8th).
