The recent Grammy awards have been accompanied by a record sales boost with British acts such as Coldplay and Adele soaring up the charts.
The Grammy awards are a massive showcase event for musical events. Winning one comes with a huge boost to the act’s profile, as they take that long walk to collect the famous trophy.
British groups dominated this year’s ceremony taking home a total of 16 trophies, with the ‘Record Of The Year’ category containing an all-Brit line up. Performing on the night were Radiohead, a heavily pregnant M.I.A. and Coldplay, amongst others.
Coincidentally, overall album sales in the United States were up by 16% in the aftermath of the event.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were the big winners, with their album ‘Raising Sand’ moving up the charts to number two. Other British acts in the top ten this week are Coldplay and Adele, who has become the toast of the music industry stateside with her debut album ’19’.
Meanwhile the ‘Grammy Nominees 2009’ compilation featuring Coldplay, Radiohead, M.I.A. and more also enjoyed a boost, with sales increasing 114 percent.
