Grammy Award Nominations 2010

Kings Of Leon, MGMT get the nod

The music world is gearing up for the Grammy awards with Kings Of Leon, MGMT and more in the running.

With new releases coming out every week in an unstoppable tide of music it is easy to get caught up in its inexorable tide. The award season is a good excuse to look back on a year’s worth of music and take stock.

One of the highlights of the American trophy season is the Grammy awards. Sure, they may be easy to knock with a multitude of bizarre categories, but with organisers attempting to modernise the ceremony the evening has witnessed some spectacular triumphs.

Earlier this year the Grammy awards resulted in a night of British talent storming home with a total of fifteen trophies coming back on the plane home.

A record breaking success, this followed on from Amy Winehouse’s triumph the year before when she won five awards in just one night.

The nominations for the 2010 event are in with Beyonce dominating proceedings. The singer has been nominated for several of the top categories including ‘Album Of The Year’, ‘Record Of The Year’ and many more.

‘Best Alternative Album’ sees Yeah Yeah Yeahs get some appreciation, while French group Phoenix will intend to run them close. Meanwhile in ‘Best New Artists’ category The Ting Tings and MGMT are set to fight it out.

Kings Of Leon are nominated for ‘Album Of The Year’ with the Followills making some major new inroads into their homeland.

The Grammy awards are set to take place on January 31st at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
