Graham Coxon is set to release his new Krautrock inspired album ‘A + E’ on April 2nd.
Graham Coxon’s solo career has been a fascinating – if unpredictable – journey. Releasing a string of scratchy, awkward LPs indebted to American indie rock the guitarist suddenly unleashed his pop touch on ‘Happiness In Magazines’.
2009’s ‘The Spinning Top’ found the guitarist indulging his love of Freak Folk, before the Blur re-union intervened.
Now Graham Coxon has confirmed that he had completed work on his new solo album. ‘A + E’ will be released on April 2nd, with Parlophone stepping in to nurse the material into the public domain.
Produced by Ben Hillier, the new material is apparently steeped in Krautrock and post-punk abstraction. Two quotes from Graham Coxon to illuminate the album: “Improvisations, experiments in beats, rhythms. A chance to uninhibitedly make some sort of perversely sad, danceable and funny and despondent songs.”
“I didn’t want to get caught up in my usual struggle with trying to make things sound really posh. I didn’t want lovely 60s-sounding drums and valves.”
