Gracie Gray’s ‘Envy’ Is Tender, Patient, And True

Her new album is incoming...

Gracie Gray has shared her beautiful new song ‘Envy’.

The LA songwriter caught attention with her early material, including debut album ‘Oregon In A Day’. As it transpires, she’s got more in her locker – a lot more.

Recent singles ‘Wishes’ and ‘Sea Of Glass’ paved her return, with new album ‘Magnet’ set to land on July 26th via tastemaker imprint Hand In Hive.

New song ‘Envy’ is a bridge between these chapters in her life – the song was initially penned during sessions for her debut LP, before becoming radically re-worked.

Emerging from experiments with noise, ‘Envy’ is a touching piece of songwriting, emphasising the control and release in her work. Gracie Gray comments…

‘Envy’ was one of the songs I wasn’t ready to release when I wrote it, alongside songs from my first album, ‘Oregon In A Day’. I ended up recording the final version to be released on my second album, Anna, and then decided it just didn’t fit. This was after weeks of recording guitar feedback for it in my bedroom during the first COVID lockdown. My roommates couldn’t have been more nice about that.

Thankfully, after many years, the message and overall feeling that this song is soaked in is completely present in my third album, ‘Magnet’. It serves as a catapult towards the second half of the album, finally graduating from being the song I couldn’t figure out.

Tune in now.
