Jamaican born singer Grace Jones has revealed that she isn’t much of a fan of Lady Gaga.
A one woman phenomenon, Lady Gaga has smashed chart records across the globe. With her lavish outfits and bizarre stage routines, the singer has turned the pop world upside down sparking a series of strange rumours.
However Grace Jones remains unimpressed. The two singer’s have often been compared, in part due to the Studio 54 icon’s love of costume, drama and of course controversy.
Rumours have continually suggested that the pair are set to duet. Speaking to The Guardian, however, the singer explained that she has no plans to work with Lady Gaga claiming she wants to work with someone “more original”.
Asked about the ‘Poker Face’ star, Grace Jones said: “I really don’t think of her at all. I go about my business.”
Continuing, the disco diva argued that Lady Gaga has copied her style, saying “I’ve seen some things she’s worn that I’ve worn, and that does kind of piss me off.”
It seems that Grace Jones had been approached with regards to a collaboration. “Yes, she did, but I said no. I’d just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually.”
Elsewhere, the singer recalled striking chat show host Russell Harty on British television. “Everybody went away from me. Everybody. The record company, everybody. ‘We don’t know her, forget her, she’s ruined it for all our other artists, she’s never going to get on another show.’ It was a big stink until the press came out positive on my behalf. And I saw them change on a dime.”
Grace Jones is set to play the following one off show:
