A member of Gorillaz is working with Liam Gallagher on his first post-Oasis musical venture.
Blur and Oasis endured one of the most ferocious rivalries ever to exist in British pop. The Essex boys mocked their Northern rivals, leading to Noel Gallagher’s infamous statement that he wished Damon Albarn would catch AIDs and die.
Of course, all that is in the past now. Noel Gallagher apologised, and in a recent interview even expressed admiration for Albarn’s ability to move between groups, styles and genres.
Returning with Gorillaz long awaited new album, Damon Albarn is on fine form. Currently on tour with the cartoon pop collective, the songwriter recently revealed that a member of the band has been working with Liam Gallagher.
The one time Oasis singer has been assembling a new group, drawn mainly from the carcass of the Mancunian legends. Due to make his live debut this summer, it seems as if a member of Gorillaz will be joining him.
Speaking to Australian radio station Triple J Damon Albarn was asked if The Verve’s Simon Tong was currently touring with Gorillaz.
“No, we haven’t got a Verve (Simon Tong) at the moment. He’s coming back. But we have a young lad called Jeff, who, funnily enough is also in Liam’s new band.”
Confirming that it was, in fact, Liam Gallagher’s new band the singer added: “I don’t know if they’ve got a name yet. But I just thought that was kind of funny.”
Gorillaz are currently touring with a guitarist named Jeff Wootton. Liam Gallagher has yet to comment on the claims.
