Gorillaz have confirmed a collaboration with Converse which could result in new material.
For now, Gorillaz are taking a rest. Jamie Hewlett is indulging other activities, while Damon Albarn is busy tackling his usual imposing array of musical projects.
But the cartoon collective are set to stir into life. Gorillaz have teamed up with Converse, and the band are planning to take part in the brand’s ongoing ‘Three Artists. One Song’ project.
Set to team up with two other artists, the collaboration will see at least one new track from Gorillaz. Set to drop in 2012, the one off release is due to coincide with an upcoming Converse range inspired by the band.
Launching in 2012, Gorillaz’ Jamie Hewlett was on hand to assist the construction of the trainer. An award winning illustrator, the designer also helped create the comic character ‘Tank Girl’.
“To converse: the exchange of thoughts, feelings or ideas. That’s what Gorillaz are all about, working and collaborating and exchanging ideas with other artists and global communicators” explained Gorillaz drummer Russell Hobbs.
“We’ve been trading in ideas and conversing with one another for ten whole years. So I couldn’t think of a better bunch of people to help celebrate our decade in the business than the good people over at the Converse shoe company. Plus I’ve been wearing my Chuck Taylor’s since forever.”
A new twist on the classic Chuck Taylor sneaks, the Gorilla collaboration features four different looks inspired by the band. The lead design has a military feel, in part inspired by the band’s debut album.
To coincide with the launch of the new range, Gorillaz and Converse will host a Gorillaz Sound System night at the 100 Club on December 1st. The soundsystem is set to feature music, live percussion and special projections with tickets available online.
