In a recent interview with Q Magazine Gorillaz artist Jamie Hewlett confirmed that he is currently working on a 10 episode series featuring the cartoon line-up of the band, although he is yet to confirm which station will be hosting it.
He also confirmed that the long-rumoured Dreamworks film, rumoured to be titled Celebrity Harvest, has definitely been axed as “it was too dark to spend a couple of hundred million dollars on.”
Though Hewlett has previously illustrated a variety of non-music video web shorts featuring the fictional members of Gorillaz, recent albums ‘Plastic Beach’ and ‘The Fall’ were relatively animation-light due to what he calls a “little bit of a disagreement” with his bandmate Damon Albarn.
Thankfully their relationship was apparently drunkenly rekindled after a 2015 Blur gig. Other revelations in the interview included Damon’s planned revival of The Good, The Bad and The Queen project with Paul Simonon, Simon Tong and Tony Allen, and that apparently Morrissey and Sade both declined to feature on new album ‘Humanz’, with the former apparently only pulling out a “month long email exchange”.
‘Humanz’ still features the likes of Danny Brown, Mavis Staples and Grace Jones and will be released April 28th.
