Good Books To Split At Glastonbury

Indie types part ways

Kent based indie types Good Books are set for a weekend to remember, with the band set to split up after playing Glastonbury.

Good Books formed in Sevenoaks, a sleepy town in Kent. Fired up by primal rock ‘n’ roll the group threw themselves into making music. Self-releasing their debut single ‘Valves And Robots’ the band gained a cult following.

Containing the tracks ‘Passchendaele’ and ‘Isabella’ the EP has gone on to become the definitive word on the band. Good Books then signed a one off singles deal with hip indie imprint Transgressive, and took off on tour with a number of high profile acts.

2006’s single ‘Leni’ was an indie dancefloor staple, while debut album ‘Control’ won some positive reviews on its release a year later. However despite spending time working on a follow up, the band have now decided to quit.

In a posting on their MySpace page Good Books confirmed the sad news.

“We are sad to announce the end of Good Books.

It’s been a fantastic few years, but the world keeps turning, and in the massively original words of Wet Wet Wet, ‘They say all good things come to an end’. We do, however, have one rather special date in the diary before we shut up shop – we’ll be playing the opening slot on the John Peel Stage on the Sunday morning at Glastonbury, the 28th of June. If you’re coming to the festival, come along and bid farewell to Good Books with the four of us.”

Members of the band are already working on new projects, with singer JP recording under the name Jocks.

Good Books finished recording their new album earlier this year. In an earlier blog posting the band write:

“I write to you today from the control room of a lovely studio on the Holloway Road in London, where we have today completed all recording work on the new album.

It’s called ‘Cry of the Hunters’, and should be with you in May or June. We love it, and hope you will.

There are eleven songs on it, we’ll let you know what they are once we’ve decided what order to put them all in. These things are crucial to making a decent album.”

Titled ‘Cry Of The Hunters’ it is not known whether this album will in fact see the light of day.

Good Books are set to play Glastonbury on June 28th.
