Desert hip hop maverick Gonjasufi has revealed that he would love to work with Jack White.
Living deep in the Mojave desert, Gonjasufi is not like other rappers. His wide range of influences bleed into an utterly unique and deeply spiritual form of music, where free jazz musicians sit alongside hip hop greats.
Recently releasing his acclaimed new album ‘A Sufi And A Killer’ earlier this year, Gonjasufi teamed up with producers such as Flying Lotus and The Gaslight Killer. A stunning success, the rapper has revealed that he wants to work with Jack White.
“I like Jack White, man” the mysterious rapper claimed. “I don’t know how it would work out, but if he ever gets tired of being the frontman and just wants to play guitar and let me back him or something… I like his whole shit, man. I’m like, ‘Damn bro, this dude is just a major bro’. He’s probably it for me.”
Speaking to Pitchfork, the rapper also claimed that he was reading ‘The 12th Planet’ by Zecharia Sitchin. A hugely controversial book, it argues that humanity were created by alien beings.
“It’s heavy, man. Zecharia Sitchin is a heavy dude. I’ve had his book for about a decade, and a couple of days ago I started reading it. There’s a lot of heavy concepts he deals with – the beginning of life and where we came from and human evolution.”
Always creating new music, Gonjasufi also claimed to be taking inspiration from cult 80s horror flick ‘The Fly’. The rapper revealed that he has been forcing his son to watch the movie alongside him.
“I’ve been watching The Fly on repeat and just tripping on that. I make my son watch that shit. He gets scared as shit. I’m like, ‘Sit down and watch this shit with me, bro’. It scared me as a child, so I might as well expose him to the same shit.”
