Glasvegas are winning an unlikely battle against thrash metal legends Metallica – the band currently sit at 1/2 to top the album charts.
The Scots rockers self titled album has become a sensation, with their live shows prompting the sort of devotion that made Jesus decide carpentry wasn’t for him. The band face stiff competition, however, from returning thrash metal legends Metallica who are also releasing their new album “Death Magnetic”.
The group’s first new release since the disastrous “St. Anger” album – still used as a yardstick for failure by metal fans – “Death Magnetic” has been hyped as a return to the thrash metal sound that made Metallica famous.
A spokesman for Ladbrokes said that “Glasvegas’ earlier release date makes them favourites to secure bragging rights in the rock versus indie battle.”
Rock versus indie, America versus UK – the lines are being drawn into what is emerging as one of the year’s most closely fought chart battles.
Glasvegas are currently 1/2 to top the UK album charts, while Metallica are lagging behind on 6/4.
