Melbourne group Glass Beams have laid out plans for new ‘Mahal’ EP.
The band’s extraordinary debut album was an example of cultural fusion at its finest, an East meets West, North meets South, club space meets home listening triumph. Continually evading genre descriptors, it soared across DSPs, and sparked a lengthy world tour.
Recent EP ‘Mirage’ was taken out on the road, with Glass Beams stretching the material in new direction, while also dropping in 20 minute of unreleased material into their set.
The unreleased tracks were recorded by fans, and clips online gained millions of views. When last year came to an end, Glass Beams reconvened in the studio, pinning down the fan favourite cuts on record for the first time.
New EP ‘Mahal’ is out on March 22nd, with the title track online now. Superbly poised, the interplay of the musicians takes a minimal arrangement somewhere much grander – deep, engrossing, and melodic, it’s a real triumph.
Out now, ‘Mahal’ comes with a neat performance clip – tune in below.
