Californian psych poppers Girls have revealed that they are planning to record a new EP later this year.
Born into the Children Of God cult, Girls singer Christopher Owens learned from an early age that he had to make his own entertainment. Denied access of music and television, the singer’s imagination grew to outrageous proportions.
Now free of any cult trappings, a deep sense of self reliance remains in the singer. On Girls’ appropriately named debut long player ‘Album’ last year Christopher Owens demonstrated a unique songwriting ability.
Touring widely, it seems as if Girls are set to head straight back into the studio. Speaking to DrownedInSound the singer joked about the name of the new release.
“We’re planning to record an EP,” Owen revealed. “I want to call the a-side ‘Fucking A’ and the b-side ‘Fucking B’, and I want it to be the best EP of all time!”
Girls are currently touring Europe, with a host of British dates on the horizon. Live, the band are a chaotic blend of songcraft and passion, with the latter occassionally over-riding the former.
“I’ve written over seventy songs this past year and I wish I was recording them,” he admitted. “At the same time it’s important for us to play live if we want to do this full-time and not have to return to our previous day jobs.”
Girls are set to return to North America next month for another lengthy tour. The band are then set to perform at Californian desert festival Coachella before heading back into the studio to record the new EP.
