Ghais Guevara Shares ‘The Old Guard Is Dead’

"Restriction always breeds innovation..."

American rapper Ghais Guevara has shared new song ‘The Old Guard Is Dead’.

The wordsmith swept into London at the end of December, playing a packed out show at vital independent venue the George Tavern. Part of a special Fat Possum showcase, Ghais will release his debut album through the label this month.

Out on January 24th, ‘Goyard Ibn Said’ is conceptual in tone and personal in execution. Taken from the LP, new song ‘The Old Guard Is Dead’ is an example of how potent and finessed Ghais Guevara’s artistry can be.

Almost minimalist in tone, the track has a pared back feel, with the on-point lyricism showing Ghais command of rap flows. He comments…

“Restriction always breeds innovation and this song is an example of that. The lack of sample options at my disposal forced me to work with unfamiliar songs, sounds and flows. The result is me and my navy storming the pier, the citizens look in fear because they know we won’t be leaving.”
